High gas prices drive Canadians off the road
Wednesday, July 23, 2008
The National Post -- TORONTO -- Canadians have begun to cut back their gas consumption in the face of record prices at the pump, new figures indicate.

Statistics Canada reported receipts at gasoline stations rose 2.4% in May from April, a solid gain but much less than the 8.8% rise in gas prices over the month. Excluding that huge price rise, the volume of gas sales actually fell about 5.9% in May, according to calculations by National Bank Financial.

Not to worry Canada. With Global Warming, the increase in year-round tourism will offset those gas prices.

Taking the evening drive has all but come to an end for the middle class people, if the prices keep going the way they are.

Yeah, that's the one good thing about high gas prices, not to sound like an elitist, they get the riff-raff off of the road. By riff-raff I mean the jalopys!

Riverside county likes to contribute the lighter traffic to the newly constructed lanes on our freeways, but I think it's the high cost of gas causing the decrease in cars on the road.

Yesterday in the news the US demand was down 3% something...look it up.

This is more in line of what I expected here in Canada - not just .5% more than the US as reported. Since our gas was over $6/gal. Cdn but is dropping - US was above $4 US but also dropping - more Cdns are conserving or just can't afford the gas they want - just what they need.

I like it when other countries are in the headlines and not the U.S. That means that we don't have it as bad as others, sorry Canada.

High gas prices is slowing everybodies driving habit down worldwide, except maybe Venezuela where gas is .12 cents a gallon.

Why are there so many articles about Canada on this site? It's the same story in the US, so why not get a US paper's take on it? I know there's a lot of Canadians using this site but it still seems lopsided at times.
